Kristersson regarding cable damage

Sweden will help Latvia with an investigation into the damage to a submarine cable in the Baltic Sea on Sunday, January 26.

This was stated by Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson on the social network X, Censor.NET reports.

He said that Sweden, Latvia, and NATO are working closely together on this issue.

"There is information that at least one data cable between Sweden and Latvia has been damaged in the Baltic Sea. Sweden, Latvia, and NATO are working closely together on this issue. Sweden will contribute to the investigation of the incident by providing appropriate capabilities," the Swedish Prime Minister said.

Kristersson added that he has been in touch with Latvian Prime Minister Eikēka Silinā throughout the day to coordinate further actions.

As a reminder, on January 26, the submarine fiber optic cable of the Latvian State Radio and Television Center (LVRTC) was damaged at a depth of more than 50 meters.

Damage to cables in the Baltic Sea

As a reminder, on December 25, the Eagle S tanker, which probably belongs to the Russian shadow fleet, damaged the Estlink 2 electric cable between Finland and Estonia and four telecommunications cables in the Gulf of Finland with its anchor.

In November 2024, a telecommunications cable between Sweden, Lithuania, Finland, and Germany was severed.

In October 2023, the Balticconnector gas pipeline and cables were damaged by the Newnew Polarbear.
