Use of frozen Russian assets should be expanded in interests of Ukraine, - Estonian Foreign Minister Tsakhkna

Frozen assets of the Russian Federation. What is offered in Europe

EU countries should take more responsibility for supporting Ukraine.

This was stated by Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tähkna, Censor.NET reports with reference to Ukrinform.

The minister stressed that Europe should do more for Ukraine.

"Estonia has proposed that all allies should provide Ukraine with more military support this year and take on more responsibility. We need to give an impetus to Ukraine to gain a strong position and weaken Putin's position. I was in Ukraine a few weeks ago and I can assure you that Ukrainians are ready to fight, and they expect us to help them militarily, but also economically, and to invest in the Ukrainian defense industry, which they are increasing," Tsahkna explained.

Before the meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council, he said:

"We need to use the bulk of Russia's assets. Estonia passed a law last year, and we can do it. So I don't believe in this kind of excuse that we don't have a legal framework for this. No, we do have them. We have European rules, there must also be political will, and Russia must pay.

According to the Foreign Minister, it is not only about peace in Ukraine, but also about peace in Europe and the defense architecture of Europe.

He also noted that the transfer of profits from these frozen Russian assets to Ukraine is a good thing, but the total amount of such blocked assets exceeds 300 billion euros, which should be used.

"We also understand the concerns of certain countries about what will happen to them if things do not go well. We need to discuss how the European Union can guarantee support for these countries where frozen Russian assets are located," he added.
