The Moldovan government has decided to provide 3 million cubic meters of gas to Transnistria to prevent an emergency in the region's energy system.

This was announced by Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Censor.NET reports citing NewsMaker.

"If the left bank of the Dniester does not agree, it will have to return these 3 million cubic meters or pay for them to Moldova," Recean said.

He also said that the European Commission is ready to become part of a grant package to finance this supply if Transnistria fulfills certain conditions.

Earlier, Tiraspol requested the gas supply, as without it, the system risks being left without pressure, and its restoration could take several months.

Additionally, Recean announced a €30 million grant from the EU, which will be used to purchase gas and generate electricity at reduced tariffs for both Moldova and Transnistria.

The Moldovan government has also presented a program to improve energy sustainability for the next two years. The plan envisages lowering electricity tariffs and creating anti-crisis measures to stabilize energy supply in the country
