Without negotiations, Ukraine will become Europe’s "Afghanistan" - Orban

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said that without peace talks, Ukraine risks transforming into an "Afghanistan" for the European Union.
He said this in an interview with the Swiss edition of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung, Censor.NET reports.
In his opinion, the West made a "big mistake" when it began to support Kyiv in February 2022, instead of isolating the conflict and immediately seeking peace talks.
"From the very beginning, it was clear that Ukraine's victory was impossible unless we started a full-scale war. This was not an option. The only way to help Ukraine today is a ceasefire and peace," the Prime Minister said.
Orban also said that even Western security guarantees and weapons supplies would not change the situation due to the lack of Ukrainian military.
"No weapons would be enough. The West can win this war only if it sends its soldiers to Ukraine. And we have ruled it out. Ukrainians simply do not have enough soldiers. That's why we need Trump now," he added.
He denied claims that Vladimir Putin will not stop after seizing Ukrainian territories.
"No one knows what is going on in Putin's mind. There is no point in speculating. But we need diplomacy now. Europeans believe that it is moral not to negotiate. This is absurd! This is what you have to do in a war! Otherwise, it will continue to destroy, and Ukraine will become the Afghanistan of the European Union," Orban said.
