Trump influenced Orban’s decision not to veto extension of sanctions against Russia - Sikorski

Sikorski says Orban did not block sanctions against Russia because of Trump

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski believes that US President Donald Trump could have influenced Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban's decision not to veto the extension of sanctions against Russia.

This is reported by RMF24, Censor.NET informs.

Sikorski took part in a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Brussels, where it was decided to extend the sanctions restrictions imposed on Russia because of the war against Ukraine.

Hungary blocked this decision, but later changed its position.

In the opinion of the Polish Foreign Minister, this was the result of US President Trump's interference.

According to Sikorski, Hungary's decision to withdraw its veto was due to President Trump's statement, which clearly called dictator Vladimir Putin an aggressor and threatened sanctions against Russia if Moscow did not agree to peace talks.

According to the Polish minister, this was Trump's first unequivocal position on the issue, which prompted Hungary to change its mind.

"I think President Trump helped here," Sikorski said.

As a reminder, on January 27, EU foreign ministers decided to extend sanctions against Russia in response to its aggression against Ukraine at a Council meeting in Brussels.
