Murder of two Ukrainian soldiers in Germany: Russian suspect pleads guilty

In Munich, Germany, a 58-year-old Russian citizen is on trial for the murder of two Ukrainian servicemen in the city of Murnau in April 2024. During the trial, the Russian pleaded guilty.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to DW.

As noted, the suspected Russian attacked two Ukrainian soldiers, 23 and 36 years old, wounded in the war, with a knife.

At the time, the Ukrainian soldiers were undergoing rehabilitation after being wounded in a city trauma clinic.

What did the investigation find?

It is stated that the three of them, who knew each other from previous meetings, were drinking together in a local bar when they began to argue about the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

At the beginning of the court hearing on Monday, the accused Russian pleaded guilty.

"Now, in a sober state, I deeply regret what happened," he said through his lawyer.

The Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism of the Munich Prosecutor's Office said that the Russian citizen felt "insulted in his national pride" because of the dispute.

The indictment states that the suspect, who has been living in Germany since the early nineties, is a "supporter of exaggerated Russian nationalism" who "unconditionally supports Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine."

The agency launched the investigation because of the possible political background of the murders.
