Trump: Zelenskyy to be involved in US-Russia talks
American leader Donald Trump has said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will take part in peace talks between Russia and the United States. The head of the White House also said that he is likely to meet with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin "very soon".
The US president said this in a commentary to Fox News, Censor.NET reports.
Trump expressed his belief that the Kremlin leader "wants to stop the fighting in Ukraine". He added that his meeting with the Russian dictator could take place "very soon". However, when asked whether it was possible to talk about any date for a meeting with Putin, Trump said: "no, no date, but it could happen very, very soon."
"It will be soon. We'll see how things go, how it goes. But you know, they're meeting there right now(probably referring to the meeting of American and Russian officials in Saudi Arabia - ed.) And this should have been done immediately after it all started (Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine - ed.), not now," the White House chief said.
Trump also said that President Zelenskyy would be involved in negotiations between the US and Russia.
"He will be involved," the US president said briefly.
Meeting in Saudi Arabia
As a reminder, on 12 February 2025, Trump said that his meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin was likely to take place in Saudi Arabia.
Trump also said that a meeting between representatives of Ukraine, the United States and Russia would take place in Saudi Arabia next week.
On 14 February, the Saudi Foreign Ministry announced that the Kingdom was ready to host a meeting between US President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
Later, Reuters wrote that representatives of the United States and Russia would meet in Saudi Arabia in the coming days to begin talks aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.
On 16 February, US Special Representative for the Middle East Steve Witkoff confirmed that US officials would travel to Saudi Arabia for talks with the Russians to end the war in Ukraine.
