Russian return to G7 is "unimaginable" - French Foreign Minister Barrot

Barrot comments on Russia’s return to G7

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot has ruled out the possibility of Russia's return to the G7.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to Le Figaro.

According to the minister, it is ‘‘unimaginable’' that Russia would return to the G7 now.

"Today it is unimaginable. The G7 is a group of the most developed democracies. Does Russia want to appear as a developed democracy? No. That is why it is unacceptable today," Barrot stressed.

The minister noted that Russia is now "behaving less and less like a democracy, it is openly and shamelessly attacking other G7 members, so this is unimaginable".

Barrot did not rule out Russia's return to the G7 if a ‘just and lasting peace’ is achieved in Ukraine.

"In the future, why not? The responsibility for this war lies on Putin's shoulders, it was not the Russian people who started this war. If, after we have created the conditions for a just and lasting peace, we manage to resume cooperation with the Russian people, other diplomatic relations are possible," the French foreign minister added.

The day before, Trump said that he would like Russia to return to the "Group of Seven" (G7) and called its exclusion a ‘mistake’.
