Kallas on sanctions against Russia: This is trump card we have in our hands

Kaja Kallas

The Russian economy is in extremely poor condition due to Western sanctions, and these restrictions are a powerful tool of pressure that should not be abandoned.

This was stated by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas in an interview with Euractiv, Censor.NET reports.

"We should not underestimate our own strength because we see that their economy is in a very bad situation: their national fund is almost completely depleted, and the interest rate of the National Bank exceeds 20%, which, by the way, is worse than in Haiti. They cannot raise capital abroad because of the sanctions. They are not getting the oil and gas revenues they used to get, and their labor market is in a very bad state," Kallas said.

According to her, the West should not fall for Russian propaganda about the country's economic stability.

"Why do Russians want sanctions lifted? Because they hurt them, and they want to return to 'business as usual'. This is the trump card we hold, and we should not give it away," she emphasized.

Kallas also noted that Russia seeks to create the illusion of its economic power, but the reality shows otherwise.
