Hungary will not support extension of sanctions against Russia and Belarus – Szijjarto

Hungary will not support the extension of sanctions against Russian and Belarusian citizens at a meeting of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council on February 24.
Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said this in Washington, D. C., as quoted by Hungarian government spokesman Zoltan Kovacs in X, Censor.NET reports.
According to him, Hungary will not support the expansion of EU sanctions against Russian and Belarusian individuals, "as it is necessary to give time for peace talks between the United States and Russia."
He also criticized Brussels for taking hasty decisions that hinder peace efforts and for violating its own energy security commitments to Hungary.
"We will not agree to the extension of sanctions on Monday - we have time until March 10," Szijjarto said.
It should be noted that these are sanctions that expire on March 15, and a decision on their extension must be made by March 10.
As the Hungarian minister explained, the European Commission allegedly failed to keep its promise to include Hungary in negotiations on the resumption of Ukrainian gas transit, inviting only Slovakia and Ukraine instead.
"They have already violated one of the four guarantees," he added.
