Elon Musk claims Zelenskyy refuses to hold elections because Ukrainians "despise him"

Elon Musk on Zelenskyy and the elections in Ukraine

American billionaire and director of the U.S. Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) Elon Musk said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy allegedly does not want to hold elections because the Ukrainian people "despise him" and he "knows he will lose."

He wrote about this on the social network X on February 20, Censor.NET reports.

"Unfortunately, CommunityNotes (a function in X to check fact-checking - ed.) is increasingly being used by governments and traditional media for manipulation. We are working to fix this," Musk wrote.

According to him, "the poll controlled by Zelensky about his own support is not credible."

"If Zelenskyy was really loved by the people of Ukraine, he would have held elections. He knows that he will lose by a large margin, despite the fact that he has seized control of all Ukrainian media, so he canceled the election," Trump's ally said.

"Actually, the people of Ukraine despise him, and that is why he refused to hold elections. I urge Zelenskyy to hold elections and disprove this. But he won’t," Musk continued.

The American billionaire added that Trump was right to ignore him and "strive for peace regardless of the disgusting, massive bribery machine that feeds on the dead bodies of Ukrainian soldiers."

Musk about Zelenskyy

The day before, Elon Musk said that President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could not represent the people of Ukraine because he was not holding elections in the country.

rump's statements about Zelenskyy's rating

The day before, Trump said that elections should be held in Ukraine, as Zelenskyy's approval rating had fallen to 4%.

As of the first half of February 2025, 57% of Ukrainians trust President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, while 37% do not, according to a KIIS survey.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the statements about his 4% rating disinformation.

Earlier, US President Donald Trump called Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections" because he allegedly convinced America to "spend $350 billion on the war".
