Zelenskyy on peacekeepers in Ukraine: Eight countries look at it positively

Eight countries are positive about sending peacekeepers to Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the issue of peacekeepers depends on the role of the United States in this.

According to Censor.NET, citing Ukrinform, he said this at a meeting with journalists.

"We are working on this issue (regarding the deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine - Ed.). I like the fact that eight countries have joined, and they look at it positively... Much depends on the role the United States will play in this, the number of countries, the personnel," the president said.

Zelenskyy said steps are being taken in this direction.

"We have a different vision of the number. Each agreement may have a different vision, but the main thing is that we are moving towards a sustainable, just peace, towards a result," he explained.

According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine does not believe that Russia wants peace.

"Therefore ... we believe in our army, and this will be one of the most important guarantees of security. Therefore, in any case, I will keep the maximum number of troops that Ukraine needs to protect its interests," he concluded.

Peacekeeping forces in Ukraine

Earlier it was reported that French President Emmanuel Macron would discuss with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk the deployment of peacekeeping forces in Ukraine if an agreement is reached to end the current phase of the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk denied that Polish troops would be sent to Ukraine after the ceasefire.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas assessed the possibility of sending a European peacekeeping mission to Ukraine.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto expressed his readiness to support a peacekeeping mission to Ukraine if peace is achieved.

In turn, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called these discussions "premature."

Germany, together with its partners, will consider the possible deployment of peacekeepers in Ukraine as part of "security guarantees" only after the conditions are created, namely a ceasefire with Russia.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry has stated that several countries are currently considering participation in a potential contingent of Western allies in Ukraine. However, specific plans for the deployment of foreign troops are still under discussion.
