Third group of Ukrainian Legion volunteers in Poland signs contract with Armed Forces of Ukraine

On February 28, the third group of volunteers who joined the Ukrainian Legion in Poland signed a contract with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The signing took place in Lublin on Friday, February 28. Several dozen more men and one woman joined the Armed Forces. Among them are Ukrainians who lived in the United States, Canada, Estonia, Norway, and Germany.

According to the Legion's representative, Petro Hakusha, the first volunteers who signed the contacts in mid-November 2024 are now undergoing professional training. According to him, a quarter of the volunteers are young people under the age of 25.

In total, more than 1,500 people have already applied to the Ukrainian Legion.

The Ukrainian Legion in Poland. What do we know?

The Ukrainian Legion is the first volunteer unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to be formed from Ukrainians living abroad. Membership in the Ukrainian Legion is exclusively on a voluntary basis with the signing of a contract. The legion's official website states that the military unit will be armed with modern equipment and weapons, which will ensure high combat capability and efficiency in performing tasks. The training will be conducted by NATO instructors at the training grounds of partner countries.

The formation of the Ukrainian Legion is envisaged by the bilateral security agreement between Ukraine and Poland, which was signed by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk in Warsaw on July 8, 2024.

It is known that more than 500 applications from 30 countries have been submitted to the Ukrainian Legion, which is currently being formed in Poland.

On November 12, 2024, the first group of volunteers from the Ukrainian Legion signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In January 2025, the second group of volunteers from among Ukrainian citizens living abroad signed contracts with the Armed Forces of Ukraine. It is also known that the second group was joined for the first time by women who chose specialties related to medicine and communications.
