Tusk: Ukraine has fewer chances of firm security guarantees from US

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that Ukraine now has fewer chances to receive firm security support from the United States than before.
He said this in the Sejm during a speech on the international situation and security of Poland after the European Council summit and a meeting of leaders of a number of countries in London, Censor.NET reports citing Ukrinform.
"The hope that Ukraine will soon receive firm security guarantees with the physical presence of the United States to ensure these guarantees seems less likely today," Tusk said. He emphasized that security guarantees for Ukraine also mean guarantees for Poland.
The Polish prime minister emphasized that the country maintains a political and public consensus to support Ukraine in its war with Russia. According to him, the result of Ukraine's effective struggle will affect the security of the whole of Europe.
Tusk also warned against the idea of accepting ceasefire conditions that could weaken Ukraine's sovereignty and make it easier for Russia to control it. He emphasized that Poland insists on the principle of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" in any negotiations.
Separately, Tusk drew attention to the need for greater European responsibility for the security of the continent. The EU countries should use the allocated 150 billion euros to strengthen defense capabilities, including air defense, artillery systems, drones, and cybersecurity.
He also emphasized that Europe should actively work with the United States to ensure that its position is taken into account in possible peace talks.
"Europe's position will be more complicated, but the whole of Europe must actively work and explain to our largest partners, in particular the United States, that from the point of view of stability and future peace, Europe must be involved in the peace process," Tusk added.
