Ukraine’s Armed Forces have found way to neutralise Russian GABs - Telegraph

The defence forces may have found a way to counter Russian guided aerial bombs that Russian troops drop on Ukrainian positions and frontline settlements.
This is stated in the material of The Telegraph, Censor.NET reports.
The publication cites statistics that in just one week in September 2024, Russian troops dropped more than 900 high-explosive bombs along the 800-mile front line with Ukraine.
According to the authors, Ukraine was virtually powerless against them. The consequences were devastating for the Ukrainian army.
However, in about 12 months, the Ukrainian Armed Forces found a way to counter Russian GABs using electronic warfare and jamming.
For example, the Russian "war correspondent" Fighterbomber, whose Telegram channel is dedicated to the Russian aviation industry, wrote that "the age of the miracle UMPC (universal planning and correction modules) turned out to be short-lived." According to him, the GABs do not hit, and "all satellite-guided correction systems have left the chat."
He also claimed that the Ukrainian Armed Forces "have learned to use portable and mobile electronic warfare stations."
This does not mean that the Russian Federation has stopped using GABs, but their use is now often unsuccessful and bombs fall far from their intended targets.
Tom Withington, a weapons expert at the UK's Royal United Kingdom Institute for Defence Studies, explained that Russian bombs should not, in principle, be jammed.
Therefore, he argues, either Russian aerial bombs are so poorly designed that they can be jammed, or Ukrainian specialists have found a way to overcome the protection built into a GAB.
"Given that Russia had been successfully using glide bombs for several months, it is more likely to be the latter." the article quotes him as saying.
However, according to The Telegraph, Ukraine's progress in this area could be undermined by Trump's recent decision to suspend military aid to Ukraine.
Europe has promised to fill the gap where necessary. However, experts say that without US support, it will be difficult for Ukraine to continue effective combat operations after the summer of 2025.
