Defense Forces shoot down Russian Su aircraft with SAMP-T system, - Ihnat
During the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, the Italian-French SAMP-T anti-aircraft missile system shot down a Russian Su military aircraft.
This was stated by Yuriy Ihnat, Head of the Communications Department of the Air Force Command, during a discussion at "Defense Talks: Sky without KABs ", Censor.NET reports citing Suspilne.
He did not specify either the model of the aircraft or the time and place of its defeat. It should be noted that Ukraine received the first SAMP-T system in August 2023.
"SAMP/T shot down Sushka. But also other targets. There is a confirmed aircraft," Ihnat said.
He emphasized that one of the most effective means of destroying enemy aircraft is the American Patriot system, designed to combat ballistic threats. In particular, these systems were used to destroy Russian aircraft carrying guided bombs.
"Do you remember the Bryansk story, when two Russian planes and three helicopters were destroyed at once: two jammers and one that served as a support aircraft. But two planes (were destroyed - ed.) at the same time, which were dropping bombs. It was a successful special operation of the Air Force: the Patriot system destroyed these planes from an ambush," Ihnat said.
According to him, similar operations took place in other regions. After the destruction of the aircraft, Russian troops changed their tactics and began hunting for Ukrainian air defense systems.
"A serious hunt for Patriot systems has begun. Unfortunately, we lost the confirmed installations. But we did not lose the system itself. The system continued to work. However, where Patriot was operating, Russian aircraft did not appear for several months. The enemy, knowing that it can be destroyed, does not approach," Ihnat added.
As a reminder, in February 2024, 15 countries created the Coalition for Integrated Air and Missile Defense in Brussels and signed a declaration. As part of the coalition, Ukraine receives PATRIOT, SAMP-T, NASAMS, IRIS-T, HAWK, CROTALE, etc. as well as anti-aircraft guided missiles.
