No country has veto over Ukraine’s choice to join EU or NATO - Sybiha

Sybiha warns partners on 80th anniversary of Yalta conference

Ukraine will not consider concessions on issues of sovereignty, the right to choose alliances and defense capabilities during future negotiations on the war.

This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha in an interview with RBC-Ukraine, Censor.NET reports.

According to him, there are fundamental things that are not subject to discussion:

  • Territorial integrity and sovereignty. Ukraine does not recognize the occupied territories.
  • Right to choose alliances: No state has the right to veto Ukraine's decision to join the European Union or NATO.
  • Defense capability: There can be no restrictions on the development of the Ukrainian army and other defense capabilities.

"So these are fundamental things that our partners know about. Russia must be brought to justice. These are all elements of a comprehensive peace. And let me remind you that they were also spelled out in our "peace formula," they reflect the approaches that define our position in the international arena," Sybiha emphasized.

He added that the principles of "nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine" and "nothing about Europe without Europe" remain key for Ukrainian diplomacy, and Kyiv feels the support of the international community in this matter.
