Six EU countries urge Brussels to accelerate Ukraine’s accession - Politico

Ukraine and EU

Top diplomats from Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have called on the EU to develop a clear roadmap for Ukraine's accession.

This is reported by Politico with reference to a letter from the diplomats, Censor.NET informs.

In the joint letter, the diplomats emphasized that Ukraine is making significant progress in reforms, so Brussels should take steps to ensure its early accession to the EU.

"The time has come for ambitious and effective decisions in this direction," the letter says.

As noted, the letter came amid a growing rift between Europe and the administration of US President Donald Trump, as well as delays in Brussels regarding further steps in Ukraine's European integration.

Despite the statement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen about Ukraine's possible accession by 2030, the Baltic states and Northern Europe are calling for faster decisions.

"Ukraine has demonstrated significant progress in reforms - now it is time to mobilize efforts to help Ukraine make it," the letter says.

At the same time, the authors of the letter emphasized that the EU enlargement process should be predictable, and "bilateral issues should not block progress."

Hungary has traditionally opposed Ukraine's accession, and its diplomats regularly block initiatives to strengthen Kyiv's European integration positions.
