Government has allowed foreigners to be recruited for military service under contract in Ukraine

At a meeting on Tuesday, theCabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a resolution that provides for the official involvement of foreigners and stateless persons in military service under contract.

This was reported by MP Oleksii Honcharenko of the European Solidarity faction, Censor.NET reports.

According to the document, recruitment centres will be able to organise the transportation of volunteers from abroad, as well as provide them with accommodation and meals in Ukraine. All relevant expenses will be covered by the state budget - from the funds of the Ministry of Defence, the National Guard or the State Special Transport Service.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, foreigners and stateless persons who served in the Armed Forces, the National Guard or the State Special Transport Service will be able to obtain Ukrainian citizenship even if they served for less than three years, provided they have outstanding services to the state or the public interest.

The naturalisation procedure involves submitting a declaration of renunciation of foreign citizenship and passing exams on the Constitution, history and Ukrainian language.
