Orban’s government urged Hungarians in writing to vote against Ukraine’s EU membership, claiming it would ruin their economy.

The Hungarian government is sending out ballots for a national consultation among its citizens. They are going to be asked about their support for Ukraine's membership in the EU. However, official Budapest directly calls on its citizens to speak out against it.
According to Censor.NET, this is stated in a letter dated April 19 from the Hungarian government's information center, which is at the disposal of European Pravda.
As noted, the letter calls on the Hungarian government to vote against supporting Ukraine's accession to the EU, as, according to official Budapest, this "will cause Hungary enormous losses."
"It will cost every Hungarian family hundreds of thousands of forints a year, jeopardize pensions and support for farmers, and pose risks to security and the labor market," the letter says.
The government also argues that "accelerated accession to Ukraine in the current circumstances will destroy the Hungarian economy."
"We, the Hungarians, cannot accept the fact that such an important issue is being resolved before our eyes. In the coming weeks, the government will provide detailed information on issues related to Ukraine's accession," the letter reads.
The Hungarian government assured that it would consider the results of the vote binding.
The letter urges Hungarian citizens to "take part in the vote" and "make a responsible decision."
Ballots will be delivered by the end of May.
