Ukrainian-designed drones will be produced in Germany for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. German company Quantum Systems has set up a joint venture with Ukrainian drone manufacturer Frontline Robotics.

The agreement was signed on Monday, 15 December, at the German-Ukrainian Economic Forum in Berlin, DW reported, according to Censor.NET.

Drones to be produced for various purposes

The new German-Ukrainian venture, Quantum Frontline Industries, is expected to produce "from thousands to tens of thousands" of drones per year, which can be used for both combat and reconnaissance missions.

"These are multi-purpose drones that can be used for different tasks. How exactly they are used will be decided by the Ukrainian army," Matthias Lena of Quantum Systems told DW.

The new venture will mass-produce Frontline Robotics’ "Zum" and "Linza" drones.

It is noted that 100% of the robotic systems manufactured in Germany will be supplied to Ukraine’s Defense Forces in volumes determined by Ukraine’s Defense Ministry.

Safe production sites are hard to find in Ukraine

  • Lena said production is planned both in Germany and in Ukraine.
  • In Germany, the company plans to involve local industry in production, including the automotive sector. Frontline Robotics, in turn, will provide not only the license but also onboarding and training for staff in Germany, the company said in a press release.

"Our drones are in demand on the frontline, so scaling up serial production is critical. In wartime, it is difficult to find safe locations inside the country. Setting up a joint venture with Quantum Systems will allow us to expand manufacturing capacity and further strengthen the Armed Forces," said Frontline Robotics representative Mykyta Rozhkov.
