Once operation in Iran is complete, U.S. will reassess its relationship with NATO, - Rubio

Rubio made a statement on U.S.-NATO relations

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that the United States will reassess its relationship with NATO once the operation in Iran is complete.

He made this statement during an broadcast on Fox News, according to Censor.NET.

"If we have now reached the point where membership in the NATO Alliance means that we cannot use these bases—that, in essence, we can no longer use them to defend the interests of America —then NATO becomes a one-way street.

Then NATO is simply about keeping our troops in Europe to defend Europe, but when we need their help... not their direct help—we’re not asking them to carry out airstrikes... but when we need them to allow us to use our military bases, and their answer is "no," then the question arises: why are we in NATO?" Rubio noted.

The U.S. Secretary of State asks: Why are we keeping all these American forces in the region if, when the going gets tough, we won’t be allowed to use these bases?

"That is why I believe that, without a doubt, once this conflict is over (the operation in Iran. — Ed.), we will have to reassess these relations. We will have to reassess the value of NATO and this Alliance for our country. Ultimately, that decision rests with the president," he concluded.
