"I've been very fortunate in this regard, as my background—working at NABU—serves as a sort of safeguard against such offers. Since my appointment, I haven’t received a single phone call or recommendation regarding personnel appointments, nor have there been any hints along the lines of ‘let’s try to revive the old practices that suited everyone,’" he explained.
According to Mandzii, people may be afraid that conversations are being recorded.
"And I would have to advise such a person to go to the National Anti-Corruption Bureau and speak with a detective.
I realize that when a NABU employee who previously managed a team of 17 people takes the helm of an organization with nearly 10,000 employees, it’s a significant challenge. Including a reputational one for the Bureau. I understand that my defeat will be perceived by certain interest groups as proof that the practice of holding competitions involving international experts is a pointless charade, a waste of funds, yet another failed project. That is why it is important to me that, through our joint efforts—with the involvement of all my colleagues, both former and current, as well as our associates—we are able to build the customs service we truly want to see. So that it is a combination of service, fiscal, and law enforcement functions," added the head of the State Customs Service.
