Water supply has been cut off in four districts of occupied Mariupol due to power cuts
In the temporarily occupied city of Mariupol, the water supply has been cut off in four districts at once. The water supply is only expected to be restored once power has been restored to the pumping stations.
According to Censor.NET, this was stated by Petro Andriushchenko, head of the Centre for the Study of the Occupation, citing the company ‘Voda Donbasu’.
The pumping stations were left without electricity
According to Andriushchenko, the water supply was cut off due to a power cut at the pumping stations of the Staro-Krymsky Reservoir.
Problems with basic utilities in the occupied city have been ongoing for around three weeks. They came to a head on 2 August following a series of strikes by the Ukrainian Unmanned Aerial Systems Forces on electricity substations.
Since then, there have been intermittent disruptions to both the electricity and water supplies in Mariupol.
The occupying authorities claim services have been restored, whilst residents are stocking up on water
Over the past few weeks, the occupying administration has been announcing the gradual restoration of electricity and water supplies. At the same time, local residents continue to collect water for domestic use and buy generators.
Against the backdrop of utility problems, Telegram channels loyal to the occupying authorities have also begun urging Mariupol residents not to post photographs of the aftermath of Ukrainian strikes. The occupiers refer to such posts as ‘working for the enemy’.
