Russia attacked Zaporizhzhia overnight: high-rise blocks, shopping centre and educational institution were damaged; there are casualties. VIDEO+PHOTOS

On the night of 21 September, Russian forces attacked Zaporizhzhia with drones. The strikes damaged high-rise buildings, a shopping centre and an educational institution. The number of casualties has risen to five.

According to Censor.NET, this was reported by Ivan Fedorov, co-chair of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Defence Council, and Mykhailo Semikin, head of the Regional Military Administration.

Four people were injured when a building was hit, whilst another person sustained injuries in a different building. Among the injured are three men and two women.

Two high-rise blocks, a shopping centre and an educational institution were also damaged. A fire broke out in one of the buildings following the strike.

Separately, there were reports of a strike on one of the buildings of a higher education institution in Zaporizhzhia. Preliminary reports suggest there were no casualties there.

Rescue workers and other emergency services are working at the scenes. Experts are dealing with the aftermath of the Russian attack and assessing the extent of the damage.
