In Kyiv, the murder of a Russian opposition figure, who currently heads one of Ukraine’s national civil society organisations, was prevented. A woman who had been tasked with the job by the FSB has been detained.

The hitwoman was to shoot the activist with a service pistol from an ambush near one of the capital’s sports centres, where he works as a kickboxing coach.
"In this way, the Russian Federation hoped to kill a Russian opposition figure who had been fighting for Ukraine since 2022 – first in the Kyiv region, and then on the Eastern Front.
SSU officers acted pre-emptively and detained the suspect near the sports complex whilst she was conducting reconnaissance of the area to select a firing position for the assassination attempt," the statement reads.
Who was carrying out the FSB’s orders?
The individual in question is an unemployed resident of the temporarily occupied city of Melitopol who was recruited by the enemy.
"It has been established that Russian security service officers recruited the woman in exchange for ‘quashing’ a case concerning the illegal possession of drugs.The recruited agent underwent training at a local ‘branch’ of the FSB, where she was taught methods of concealment, terrain orientation and the use of firearms.
After completing her training, the hitwoman was transported to Zhytomyr via Belarus, and then arrived in Kyiv.
"In the capital, the suspect regularly changed her hotel addresses. Furthermore, upon leaving her room, she would leave a mark on the door to detect the possible presence of unauthorised persons in the room," the SSU reported.
Subsequently, the woman received the coordinates of a hiding place in a forest park area of the capital from her handler in Russia, where she collected a pistol and ammunition.
The weapon was discovered during a search of the detainee’s hotel room. A smartphone was also seized from her, which she had used to communicate with her FSB handler. His identity has already been established by the Security Service.
She has now been charged with high treason. She is being held in custody without the right to bail. She faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
