Zelenskyy awards Hero of Ukraine title to fallen MiG-29 pilot Marat Mambetov

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has (posthumously) awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine, along with the Order of the Gold Star, to Ukrainian pilot Marat Mambetov, a flight commander with the 40th "Ghost of Kyiv" Tactical Aviation Brigade.
This is stated in the relevant presidential decree, Censor.NET reports.

According to the document, the serviceman was honored for "personal courage and heroism demonstrated in defending Ukraine's state sovereignty and territorial integrity, and selfless service to the Ukrainian people."
Death of Marat Mambetov
- Marat Mambetov was from the Melitopol area. He was born in 2001 into a military family. In 2022, he graduated from Ivan Kozhedub Kharkiv National Air Force University and immediately joined the "Ghosts of Kyiv" brigade.
- In the last two years of the war alone, Mambetov flew nearly 200 combat sorties in MiG-29 fighter jets and destroyed dozens of Russian aerial targets. He also carried out missile and bomb strikes on Russian troops' ground positions and provided cover for operations by the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Ground Forces.
- For his service, he was awarded the Order "For Courage" in the 2nd and 3rd classes and the Ukrainian presidential distinction "For the Defense of Ukraine."
- On October 1, Marat Mambetov was killed while carrying out combat missions in a MiG-29 fighter jet. He was 25. The Ukrainian Air Force said the pilot was conducting missile and bomb strikes against Russian occupiers in one sector of the front. His MiG-29 was hit by an enemy missile. Mambetov ejected but did not survive.
