Kremlin has rejected Zelenskyy’s initiative for 60-day ceasefire to allow elections to take place in Ukraine

The Kremlin has rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s proposal for a 60-day ceasefire, which was intended to enable presidential elections to be held in Ukraine.
This was reported by Censor.NET, citing Reuters.
The Russian side insists that it allegedly wants a comprehensive peace agreement instead.
In particular, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told journalists on Monday that Russia wants a long-term peace agreement, rather than a temporary ceasefire.
"In the Kremlin, both President Putin and officials at other levels have repeatedly stated that we do not want a ceasefire," said Peskov.
"We want long-term peace and are prepared to do everything possible to achieve it," he added.
What led up to this?
- The day before, US President Donald Trump stated that he believes it is time for Ukraine to elect a new leader who will be capable of reaching agreements to end the war.
- Commenting on Trump’s statement, Peskov claimed that Volodymyr Zelenskyy was allegedly failing to demonstrate the political will to end the war.
- For his part, Zelenskyy stated that he was prepared to discuss the issue of elections if the US reached an agreement with Russia on a complete ceasefire.
