Prosecutor General’s Office opens proceedings after Censor.NET report on veteran Sambur seeking recovery of UAH 4 million

The Prosecutor General’s Office has opened two criminal proceedings following Censor.NET’s publication of the story of veteran Vladyslav Sambur, who is seeking to recover UAH 4 million received by his mother, who had been stripped of her parental rights, while he was in Russian captivity.
Acting Prosecutor General Anton Kovalskyi announced this.
What is known?
"I read the story of serviceman Vladyslav Sambur, who spent almost three years in Russian captivity and, after returning, has been forced to seek through the courts the funds intended for him during his captivity.
The amount in question is approximately UAH 4 million. The state paid out these funds, but the serviceman himself did not receive them," the statement reads.
Kovalskyi ordered an immediate examination of all the circumstances of the case.
"Following a preliminary examination of the circumstances, information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations concerning the actions of officials of the military unit where he served and possible fraud by his mother, who had been stripped of her parental rights, in obtaining these payments.
Each of these incidents must receive a proper legal assessment. If the system failed at some point, the system itself must rectify that failure, not the serviceman.
A person who spent almost three years in Russian captivity should not have to spend years after returning dealing single-handedly with the consequences of bureaucratic procedures to obtain justice. This should not happen," the acting prosecutor general concluded.
