Klitschko responds to Zelenskyy over Kyiv’s "insufficient preparation": Disgusting treatment of Kyiv residents

Vitalii Klitschko

Kyiv Mayor Vitalii Klitschko responded to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s criticism of the capital’s insufficient preparation for the heating season. He stressed that Kyiv had begun the heating season on time, on October 16, and that electricity supply problems were caused by Russian attacks on Ukraine’s unified power grid.

Klitschko wrote this on social media, Censor.NET reports.

A reminder about the unified power grid

"Which specific decisions ‘at the city level’ were not implemented (as the president claims), leaving us unprepared ‘for the heating season and this Russian special operation against Ukraine’s energy sector’?! How was the capital, which, incidentally, began the heating season on October 16, supposed to prevent a ‘Russian special operation against Ukraine’s energy sector’? At what meetings, and with whom, are Kyiv’s preparations and efforts being discussed without representatives of the city authorities being invited? And is the president aware of the actual situation with energy supplies in other regions because of the enemy’s constant devastating attacks? And of the fact that Ukraine has a unified power grid (interconnected), that is. When it is being smashed across the country, it cannot be all lit up in one place while elsewhere Klitschko has switched everything off… And perhaps I also drove all the energy workers away, if the police are rounding them up for work?" the mayor wrote.

Accusations of obstruction and a lack of assistance

Klitschko said that "the central authorities’ mantra that Kyiv is the worst, the constant manipulation and lies, are a sorry state of affairs."

"Because in trying to get rid of Klitschko by any means, constantly creating obstacles and failing to help the capital, the central authorities are effectively destroying Kyiv," the mayor said.

According to him, the obstacles and lack of assistance to the capital amount to "disgusting treatment of the city’s residents." The mayor also believes such criticism devalues the work of energy and municipal utility workers, who restore damaged facilities around the clock under fire.

"All of this looks disgusting towards the capital’s residents… And towards the energy workers, municipal utility workers and other specialists who risk their lives under fire, working around the clock to do what is practically impossible," Klitschko wrote.

"Perhaps it is finally time to stop assigning blame when everyone is struggling? When the question is whether the country will withstand this. And it can only do so through joint efforts, constructive cooperation between authorities at all levels, and coordinated work by all agencies and specialists. There will still be time to draw conclusions…" the mayor added.

Background
