On December 29, 2024, 40-year-old volunteer soldier Viktor Korol, a native of Bakhchisarai (Crimea), died while performing a combat mission in the Donetsk region.

Viktor Korol left the occupied Crimea after the events of 2014 and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine to fight for the country's territorial integrity.
Viktor's family was known for its active position in promoting Ukrainian culture and education on the peninsula before the occupation. His father, Yurii Korol, headed the Bakhchisarai district organisation Prosvita named after Taras Shevchenko, defending the rights of the Ukrainian community in Crimea.
The Commissioner of the Crimean Diocese of the OCU, Andrii Shchekun, noted that Viktor was a man who made a significant contribution to the struggle for Ukraine's independence. He expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased.
