The gang members who killed a couple and their 4-year-old child in Chernihiv region in 2023 were sentenced to life imprisonment.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, Censor.NET informs.
In court, prosecutors proved that the former serviceman had organised an armed criminal group, in which he involved two civilians, a man and a woman.
"In May 2023, the organiser offered a man he knew from Kyiv to buy a car from him. The meeting place was an out-of-service petrol station in Chernihiv region. The victim came there from Kyiv with his family - his wife and young son.
Preparing to commit the crime, the gang members changed the car's number plates, took a firearm with ammunition, a shovel and went to the meeting. Near a forest plantation, they shot the car with the entire family and seized their property. To hide the traces of the crime, the convicts buried the bodies of the couple and their 4-year-old son nearby and set fire to their vehicle," the statement said.
The gang members divided the stolen $6,000 among themselves.
The ex-serviceman and two civilians were found guilty of the intentional murder of two people and a young child, banditry, illegal handling of weapons, illegal seizure of a vehicle, and intentional destruction of property (Articles 115, 257, 263, 289, 194 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The two accomplices were also found guilty of possession of drugs on a large scale (Article 309 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
They were sentenced to life imprisonment with confiscation of property. They also have to pay UAH 30 million in non-pecuniary damage to the families of the victims.
