The Appellate Chamber of the High Anti-Corruption Court upheld the decision of the first instance court to confiscate a Mercedes car used by the head of the Migration Control Department of the Main Department of the State Migration Service of Ukraine in Odesa Oblast.

This was reported by Censor.NET with reference to the SBI press centre.

It was established that the official purchased a Mercedes-Benz G400 D worth UAH 5.65 million and registered it in his mother's name in 2023. At the same time, neither his income nor his mother's income allowed him to do so.

On 11 December 2024, a panel of HACCU judges upheld the claim of the SAPO prosecutor to declare the ownership of a car worth UAH 5.6 million unjustified. The court also ruled to recover the car for the state.

The SBI reminds that on 6 June 2024, in Odesa region, officials of the Migration Service were exposed for "making money" on foreigners. In return for USD 20 thousand, the officials promised to help a native of the Republic of Moldova, who is currently in Ukraine.

Then, the officials' places of work and residence were searched and money, including cryptocurrency, jewellery and property worth at least UAH 140 million, which is much higher than their legitimate earnings, was found. According to preliminary estimates, the jewellery of the head's wife alone is worth almost UAH 3 million.

Among other things, the chief was found to have an elite house of 200 square metres and an elite car registered in his mother's name. The official's mother also owns many land plots, other houses and shops.

According to the annual declaration for 2023, the official received a salary totalling UAH 345 thousand.

The State Bureau of Investigation provided the SAPO with relevant materials, with which the Specialised Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office filed a claim with the HACC to declare the assets acquired by the said official unjustified.

Earlier, Censor.NET reported that two officials of the State Migration Service in Odesa region extorted $20,000 from a Moldovan citizen for help in avoiding deportation.
