During his visit to Sweden, Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal visited the office of Saab, the company that manufactures Gripen fighter jets.
He announced this on social media, according to Censor.NET.
Details of the visit
Shmyhal recalled that in October, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson signed agreements paving the way for the transfer of Gripen jets to Ukraine.
During his visit to Saab’s office, Shmyhal discussed with the company’s leadership possible areas of technical cooperation and the next steps in delivering the aircraft to Ukraine.
Delivery terms
According to Ukraine’s Defense Minister, modern Gripen jets will significantly strengthen the combat capabilities of the Air Force and support the implementation of the aviation development roadmap in line with NATO standards.
"We continue to work on accelerating the process of transferring and integrating Gripen jets into Ukraine’s Air Force so that they can defend our skies as early as next year," Shmyhal added.
- As a reminder, on 22 October, Ukraine and Sweden signed agreement of intent on the purchase of 120 to 150 new JAS 39 Gripen E fighter jets.
