"Based on information provided by employees of the main operational-search department, the response teams of the Luzhanka department and the Bodalovo branch detained six men – one Hungarian citizen and five Ukrainian citizens," the report said.
It is noted that during the detention, two offenders tried to escape. To stop them, border guards had to fire warning shots into the air.
Attempted to cross the border illegally
It was established that the detained Hungarian acted as a guide and was supposed to accompany the Ukrainians to his country. According to the detainees, the organisers of the scheme expected to receive $55,000 from the illegal deal – from $9,000 to $15,000 from each of the participants.
The smugglers abandoned the SUV they used to transport the guide and "clients" near the border, on the outskirts of the village of Choma.
What is the punishment?

The information was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations.
As part of urgent investigative actions, law enforcement officers seized an SUV, cash, and mobile phones, which are likely to contain evidence of illegal activities by the participants in the scheme.
- The Hungarian citizen was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine and notified of suspicion of committing a crime under Article 3 of Article 332. The Berehove District Court imposed a preventive measure on the foreigner in the form of 60 days in custody, with the possibility of bail in the amount of UAH 3.5 million.
- Administrative offence reports were drawn up against the Ukrainian citizens under Articles 204-1, 202 and 185.10 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences. The case files were sent to court.
