A serviceman from the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ Unmanned Systems Unit was working for the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the intelligence service of the Belarusian Border Guard.
This was reported by the SSU press service, according to Censor.NET.
What is known?
While serving as a UAV operator, he passed on to the enemy data regarding the movement directions, types and numbers of Defence Forces drones involved in combat operations in the north-eastern border region.
"Subsequently, on the instructions of enemy intelligence officers, the agent transferred to the post of operator of the Armed Forces’ ground-based robotic systems, which evacuate the wounded and deliver ammunition in the Izyum sector.
However, instead of carrying out his official duties on the front line, the suspect began gathering data on the deployment and combat operation plans of adjacent units of the Ukrainian armed forces," the statement reads.
He also gathered information for the enemy on the tactical and technical characteristics and operational features of the Defence Forces’ latest robotic systems.
After carrying out the Russian Federation’s tasks, the soldier hoped to flee to the Russian Federation across the front line, where he was to be met by Russian special services officers.
SSU counter-intelligence officers acted pre-emptively and documented the agent’s subversive activities.
At the same time, measures were taken to secure the locations of Ukrainian soldiers.
"Krot" was detained at his place of residence in the Kharkiv region.
During searches, two smartphones were seized from the detainee, containing evidence of his work for the special services of the Russian Federation and Belarus.
He has now been charged with treason.
The suspect is in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
