Russians struck at rescuers in Sumy overnight, damaging equipment. Over past 24 hours, 23 settlements in region have been attacked. PHOTOS
On the night of 22 March, Russian troops attacked rescue workers in Sumy; in total, the occupiers carried out 40 shelling attacks on the Sumy region over the course of the day.
This was reported by the State Emergency Service of Ukraine and the head of the regional military administration, Oleh Hryhorov, according to Censor.NET.
Strike on rescue workers
During the night in the city of Sumy, State Emergency Service specialists were conducting a routine inspection of the area following an enemy strike. Just as the rescue workers were ready to return to their unit, the enemy launched a second strike near a fire tanker.
It is noted that the personnel managed to react in time and retreat to a safe place.
"This is yet another deliberate strike against those who rescue and help. This latest crime by the enemy shows once again that they are waging war against those who save people," the State Emergency Service emphasises.
Shelling of the Sumy region over the past 24 hours
Over the past 24 hours, Russian troops carried out more than 40 shelling attacks on 23 settlements in 14 local communities across the region.
The highest number of shelling incidents was recorded in the Sumy and Shostka districts.
The following communities were targeted by the enemy: Sumy, Yunakivka, Khotyn, Krasnopil, Berezivka, Hlukhiv, Esman, Shalyhyn, Seredyna-Bud, Zno-Novgorod, Khutir-Mykhailivka, Shostka, Konotop, and Trostyanets.
Casualties
As a result of Russian shelling of the region over the past 24 hours, one civilian has been injured.
In the Trostyanets community, a 32-year-old man was injured as a result of a drone attack.
In addition, a 51-year-old resident of the Hlukhiv community, who was injured on 13 March by a UAV strike, sought medical attention.
What weapons did the occupiers use?
It is reported that the enemy used mortars, artillery, FPV drones, UAVs, and guided aerial bombs across the Sumy region.
Damage and destruction
It is noted that as a result of the shelling, civilian infrastructure facilities were damaged and destroyed:
- In the Hlukhiv district, an apartment block and non-residential premises were damaged;
- In the Seredyna-Buda district, a private residential house, outbuildings, non-residential premises, and cars were damaged;
- In the Shostka district, a residential building was damaged;
- In the Zno-Novgorod district, a private residential house was destroyed;
- In the Esman district, private homesteads were destroyed, and private residential houses, farm buildings, and civil infrastructure facilities were damaged;
- in the Khutir-Mykhailivska district, a civil infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in the Shalygyn district, a civil infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in the Berezivska district, a civil infrastructure facility was damaged;
- in the Krasnopil district, a non-residential building was damaged;
- in the Trostyanets district, a private household and a non-residential building were damaged;
- Residential buildings were damaged in the Konotop community.
Over the past 24 hours, the air raid alert in the region lasted 18 hours and 34 minutes.
