In the Odesa region, law enforcement officers exposed an official of a district Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TRC and SS) who, for a bribe, promised to help a serviceman avoid liability for absence without leave (AWOL) and assist with employment.
This was reported by the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office, Censor.NET informs.
Details of the case
According to the investigation, the head of a group in one of the departments of a district TRC and SS in the Odesa region offered, for 10,000 US dollars, to ensure an appointment to a vacant position in the TRC, in particular, to provide the necessary written consent.
He also stated that he could resolve the issue with law enforcement officers regarding the closure of the proceedings for AWOL. In case of refusal, he threatened to inform law enforcement and create problems with a further return to military service.
Arrest and consequences
Law enforcement officers documented the transfer of funds, which took place in installments. During the handover of the final amount, the official was detained pursuant to Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.
Under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Defense Prosecutor's Office of the Southern Region, he was served a notice of suspicion of receiving an undue advantage for influencing the decision-making of officials, combined with extortion (Part 3 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
- The suspect was remanded in custody as a preventive measure, with the alternative of a 998,400 UAH bail. The involvement of other individuals and possible additional episodes are being investigated.
