Anti-drone nets have appeared 9 km from Putin’s residence in Valdai, - Russian media. PHOTOS

Special anti-drone nets have been spotted above lorry parking areas in the Valdai District of the Novgorod Region in the Russian Federation — just 9 kilometres from the official country residence of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

This was reported by Censor.NET, citing the Russian publication "Agency. News".

Details

Journalists have published photographs showing massive nets stretched directly above lorries. One such image was captured on the M-10 federal highway near the town of Valdai.

Analysts note that there were no such barriers in this area previously. In particular, on the panoramic images from the "Yandex Maps" service and satellite images from the Google Maps platform, dated 2025, these protective structures are completely absent at the specified location.

According to investigators, the occupiers began frantically equipping the road with protective netting immediately after the successful and large-scale operation by the Ukrainian special services known as "Spider's Web", which took place on 1 June 2025.

Assessment of effectiveness

A representative of the Conflict Intelligence Team (CIT) investigative project, who agreed to comment on the situation on condition of anonymity, noted that such metal or rope nets are usually used to intercept small UAVs or munitions dropped from drones.

However, such a net would not protect the object from a direct hit by large Ukrainian strategic drones (such as, for example, the long-range "Luty").

  • It is worth recalling that Putin’s Valdai residence has already been in the spotlight on numerous occasions.
  • At the end of December last year, the Russian Ministry of Defence accused Ukraine of attacking this facility using as many as 91 drones. At the time, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially dismissed these panicked claims by the Russian side as yet another piece of disinformation.
