All sporting and physical education events in the temporarily occupied Crimea have been cancelled until 1 September.
According to Censor.NET, ZN.UA reports this, citing the peninsula’s occupying authorities.
The occupying administration has issued a decree to this effect
It is noted that the decision came into force on 22 June.
The relevant document was signed by the so-called ‘Minister of Sport’ of occupied Crimea, Olga Torubarova.
The ban applies to training and coaching activities at sports facilities, as well as to the holding of championships, cups, tournaments and other mass sporting events.
Athletes have been banned from travelling to competitions
In addition, pending further notice, the occupying authorities have cancelled trips by athletes to take part in competitions both within Crimea and beyond its borders.
The occupying administration justified its decision by citing a "threat to the safety of those involved in sporting activities".
According to the publication, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have recently been actively striking the logistical routes used by Russian troops to maintain links with occupied Crimea.
