In the Zhytomyr region, concrete slabs on the M-07 Kyiv–Kovel–Yahodyn international motorway are warping due to the intense heat, posing a potential hazard to drivers.
According to Censor.NET, this was reported by the Zhytomyr Regional Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service on its official Facebook page.
Road deformation due to extreme heat
The Infrastructure Restoration and Development Service has urged drivers to be careful when travelling along the M-07 Kyiv–Kovel–Yahodyn motorway.
"We urge drivers to drive carefully along the M-07 Kyiv–Kovel–Yahodyn motorway: due to extremely high temperatures, the road surface is unable to withstand the heat. Concrete slabs on the road are warping, shifting and rising sharply due to thermal expansion, which poses a danger to drivers," the statement reads.
Experts note that the road surface is under constant monitoring, and efforts are being made to repair any damage found as soon as possible.
Restrictions on heavy goods vehicle traffic
The service also reminded the public that restrictions on heavy goods vehicles are in place during periods of high temperatures.
These measures are introduced to preserve the road infrastructure and reduce the risk of further damage during the heatwave.
It was previously reported that, due to the heatwave, Romania had temporarily restricted lorry traffic at the border with Ukraine. According to information received from the Romanian side, on 29 and 30 June, from 12:00 to 20:00, lorries will not be permitted to cross the border out of Ukraine, nor will they be allowed to continue their journey through Romanian territory.
