Driver-sapper and Chief Master Sergeant Yurii Onatskyi of the State Emergency Service (SES) of Ukraine’s Interregional Centre for Humanitarian Demining and Rapid Response died in the line of duty in the Kharkiv region.
This was reported by State Emergency Service head Andrii Danyk, Censor.NET reports.
What is known about the deceased?
Yurii was only 39 years old. He is survived by his wife and two minor children.
"Until his final breath, he remained faithful to his oath and did everything he could to clear Ukrainian soil of deadly metal. I extend my sincere condolences to the family, loved ones, and fellow service members of the fallen Hero. We mourn with you. May his memory be eternal," the head of the State Emergency Service stressed.
Another sapper was injured
His colleague, driver-sapper and Master Sergeant Serhii Kasianenko, was also injured in the explosion. He was hospitalised, and doctors are providing him with all necessary medical care.
