Over the past two weeks, 23 Ukrainian citizens have been successfully returned from the temporarily occupied territories, with 16 of them leaving within a single day. Among those rescued were children, elderly people and those with reduced mobility, as well as Ukrainians with health problems.
According to Censor.NET, this information was provided by the Ombudsman’s Office, which facilitated the repatriation.
The oldest person among those who left the occupied territory was 88 years old, and the youngest was 11.
Insulin was prepared in advance for the 11-year-old boy
Among those returned was an 11-year-old boy with diabetes who requires constant insulin treatment. Before his departure, the necessary insulin was prepared in advance to ensure that the long and difficult journey would not worsen the child’s condition.
The boy left the occupied territory together with his family.
A 17-year-old Ukrainian left the occupied territory on his birthday
Another of those who have returned is a 17-year-old lad. The day he left the occupied territory coincided with his birthday.
Despite living under occupation, the young man continued to study remotely at a Ukrainian educational institution and later enrolled at a Ukrainian university. He will now be able to meet his fellow students in person.
In the territory controlled by Ukraine, the young man’s older sister, who had left their hometown before it was occupied, was waiting for the family. Upon their return, the family was reunited.
A separate route was drawn up for each person
The Ombudsman’s Office noted that a return route was drawn up individually for each person, and assistance was provided with paperwork and other organisational matters.
The return took place in cooperation with the International Committee of the Red Cross and with the support of "Caritas Ukraine".
Ukrainians who need assistance in leaving the temporarily occupied territories can contact the Ombudsman’s Office hotline on 1678, the statement said.
