Two Russian soldiers have been convicted of torturing civilians, using people as ‘human shields’ and shelling houses and civilian infrastructure during the occupation of Borodianka and Makariv in the Kyiv region.
This was reported by the Office of the Prosecutor General, as relayed by Censor.NET.
What were the sentences?
As noted, one of them was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, the other to 12 years. They were found guilty of violating the laws and customs of war under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The court rulings were handed down in absentia, as the convicted men are in hiding in the Russian Federation.
What is known about the convicted men
The convicted men are servicemen of the 37th Separate Guards Motorised Rifle Brigade ‘Don-Budapest’ of the Red Banner and Order of the Red Star, part of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.
During the temporary occupation of settlements, they also engaged in looting and treated local residents brutally.
