Person armed with grenade detained in downtown Kyiv, - police chief. PHOTOS

The law enforcers found a grenade on an individual they searched in downtown Kyiv.

Kyiv police Chief Andrii Kryshchenko wrote on Facebook, Censor.NET reports.

"A person with an RGD-5 grenade was detained at a security post a few minutes ago. He explained that he intended to take it to the Maidan without providing the reason," he wrote.

According to the Kyiv police, the law enforcers noticed a suspicious young man near a security post at Khreshchatyk Street. The man tried to escape as the police started patting him down. The law enforcement officers stopped him and found an RGD-5 grenade with a fuse in his pocket. The explosive device was immediately covered by a box and the perimeter was secured until completion of the check. The grenade was brought by a local resident born in 1998.

As reported, Ukraine celebrates the Day of Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred today, Feb. 20. Several rallies in memory of activists slain three years ago are scheduled to be held in downtown Kyiv.
