Drone attack on Russia: air defence system operated in Smolensk region. VIDEO
On the night of 21 January, explosions were heard in the Smolensk region of the Russian Federation. Local authorities reported a drone attack.

The governor of the region, Vasily Anokhin, confirmed the information about the drone attack on the region.
It is noted that the drones were flying to an oil depot in the town of Yartsevo, Smolensk region. Air defence systems were allegedly activated over the town.
Local residents reported hearing up to seven explosions. Several fires broke out in Smolensk amid the drone attack.
According to local public reports, the drone's wreckage fell on a residential building in the Zadneprovsky district of Smolensk. Eyewitnesses wrote that the drone crashed into the roof of the house, causing a fire to break out. The blast wave smashed the windows on the top floor of the building. According to preliminary reports, there were no casualties.
On the night of 20 January, residents of Kazan reported explosions over the city. The airport in Kazan was put under a "Carpet" regime. The Russians claimed an attack on an aircraft and helicopter plant.
