"Sunset" of Volgogradsky oil refinery in Russia: Unmanned aerial vehicles struck plant on night of 11 February. VIDEO

On the night of 11 February, operators from the 1st Separate Centre of Unmanned Systems Forces carried out a strike on the Volgogradsky oil refinery.

According to Censor.NET, this refinery is one of the key oil refining assets of the Russian Federation with a capacity of up to 14–15 million tonnes of oil per year.

Why the Volgogradsky refinery was important to Russia:

  • After modernisation, the plant produced significant volumes of petrol and diesel.
  • It supplied fuel to the southern regions of the Russian Federation and military logistics infrastructure.
  • was one of the largest taxpayers in the Volgograd region;
  • It formed part of the export potential of petroleum products in the Russian Federation.

"This plant is an element of fuel security, logistics and foreign exchange earnings for the enemy. When such facilities are shut down, supply chains are disrupted, budgets lose revenue, and the system begins to malfunction," according to comments under the video.
