Seven years since "Each of us is president": how Zelenskyy’s inauguration promises have stood test of time. VIDEO

Today, 20 May 2026, marks exactly seven years since Volodymyr Zelenskyy officially took office as President of Ukraine. His 2019 inaugural address was built around a scathing critique of the old political system and promises to rid the country of corruption once and for all.

According to Censor.NET, today's society and politicians are actively analysing which of those declared principles have been realised and which have not.

Let us recall that seven years ago, Zelenskyy addressed the public with a call for shared responsibility, emphasising that from now on "each of us is the president":

"Imagine the sensational headlines: 'The President is quietly stealing because "everyone does it".' Do you agree that this is a disgrace? That is what I mean when I say that each of us is a president."

As is well known, during Zelenskyy’s term in office, particularly during the full-scale Russian invasion, the country has been rocked by high-profile corruption scandals that have caused widespread public outrage:

  • Scandals in the defence sector: Embezzlement in the procurement of food, fuel and drinking water for the Armed Forces, as well as shady deals involving the purchase of artillery shells through intermediary firms.

  • The parliamentary faction and the government: A series of arrests and allegations against MPs from "Servant of the People" (ranging from bribes for "land issues" and contracts to trading in permits to travel abroad), as well as recent corruption scandals in the energy sector.

  • Questions for the President’s Office: Ongoing accusations from anti-corruption activists regarding the "impunity" of certain top officials, in particular Oleh Tatarov.
