Kamikaze drone attacks and hits Russian 5N63S radar worth about $50 million. VIDEO

Ukrainian defenders struck an air defense system of the Russian occupation forces, destroying a critically important and high-value element of an enemy surface-to-air missile system. Censor.NET reports that fighters of the Chornyi Lis unit successfully hunted down the high-value target.

While conducting aerial reconnaissance in one of the front directions, Ukrainian soldiers detected a Russian 5N63S illumination and guidance radar station, worth approximately $50 million.

After the target’s coordinates were accurately recorded, fire damage was inflicted on the enemy facility, as a result of which the expensive and complex equipment was completely disabled.

  • Heart of the air defense system: The 5N63S radar station is effectively a command post within S-300 and S-400 surface-to-air missile systems. These systems form the backbone of the Russian Federation’s layered and echeloned air defense system.
  • Critical function: This station is responsible for detecting targets, tracking them, illuminating them and directly guiding anti-aircraft missiles toward airborne targets.
  • Consequences of destruction: Without such a radar station, an entire SAM battery or battalion loses combat capability and turns into an ordinary cluster of launchers, as the system becomes "blind."
