Hungary refused to finance long-term support program for Ukraine

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said that his country would not support the plan of long-term financial support for Ukraine, announced by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen the day before.

This was stated by Szijjarto on Monday at a meeting of foreign ministers of the Central European Initiative countries in Bulgaria, reports Censor.NЕТ with reference to "European truth".

As the Hungarian Foreign Minister explained, Budapest has already provided significant financial assistance to Ukraine and is ready to continue to do so. But Hungary will not support a long-term joint borrowing plan, as it proved ineffective during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Szijjarto added that the Hungarian government has spent "tens and hundreds of millions of euros" to support healthcare, education, culture and churches in Ukraine.

"We are ready to continue financial support on a bilateral basis, on the basis of a bilateral agreement between Ukraine and Hungary. But we certainly will not support any joint borrowing of the EU in this area," he said.

The head of the Hungarian diplomacy once again criticized the sanctions imposed by the European Union against Russia, because they do not harm Moscow and hit only Europeans.
